Our Story
From the band room
to the dance floor.
We met making music in the Ohio State University Marching Band. After college, we lost the outlet that had defined us. So we built one — and made it open to everyone else who needed the same.
01 / How we started
We are Jacob Hofer and Sofia Barragan — two trumpet players who found each other in the Ohio State University Marching Band. Music was never just a hobby for us; it was the thing that gave our days structure, our friendships depth, and our ambitions a direction.
After graduation, that world disappeared. No more rehearsals. No more crowds. No more reason to obsess over the perfect set. We tried to keep the feeling alive, sending mixes to collectives, reaching out to promoters, and showing up to nights hoping someone would give us a shot. The doors stayed closed.
So we decided to build our own door. House Social started as a way to keep playing — but it quickly became bigger than that. We realized we were not the only ones who had talent, drive, and nowhere to put it. Most collectives feel walled off from the outside. We wanted to build the kind we wished existed: one that brings creators together, shares the opportunities we create, and makes room for the next DJ who deserves to be heard.
02 / Why we do it
We are DJs ourselves. We know how hard it is to get a real shot.
Our mission is simple: give opportunities to people in the same position we were in. Whether it is your first set or your fiftieth, if you love house music and you are serious about your craft, we want to make space for you.
